How To Insert Or Replace The O-ring Rubber Inside The Gas Cylinder Bottle Valve

Gas cylinders must be used and handle with proper care. One of the leading cause of LPG fires or explosions is gas leaks or breaks. This caused over 80% of household fires. The O-ring rubber in the gas cylinder is meant to help prevent metal-to-metal contact. The rubber is an added protection. It allows the refilling nozzle or gas regulator to screw tightly in to the gas valve on your gas bottle.

You should always inspect the O-ring rubber for damage, because some can widen, stretch out or expand with continuous usage, preventing the two components from sealing, resulting in a leak. If it is a gas cylinder bottle with O-ring rubber, it needs to be undamaged. Check each gas cylinder before attaching the gas regulator. If the O-ring rubber is damaged, this can leak and cause white fume of LPG coming out from the valve stem. You should change this to new ones - it cost less $10.

Never use your gas cylinder bottles or refill them without the rubber O-ring. To change or replace the O-ring rubber from the gas cylinder valve, you will need a sewing needle or safety pin. Pinch the O-ring rubber using the pin, gently removing it from the gas cylinder valve. Replace with a brand new one, then attach your gas regulator. Test for gas leak using a soapy water detergent.
