LPG is supplied in two forms: commercial Butane and commercial Propane. These are the general two types of gas used for outdoor stoves. However, Propane is widely prefer for camping than the Butane gas. Propane works when it gets cold, but unfortunately for Butane, the gas condenses when at gets cold and won't flow (no early morning brew). So, if you are planning on any winter camping, Propane gas is the only way to go.
But if Propane is a great choice for year round cooking, why then do some countries bother with Butane?
Well, Butane burns more effectively, so you can get more gas out of a small Butane refilled bottle than a bigger Propane tank. Plus Propane tanks tend to be heavier, making Butane easier to transport when you have lots of camping gears. Some countries just refer the mixture of both Butane and Propane, especially countries in Africa.
You must check your appliance to know what gas is suitable and what it officially supports. Using the wrong LPG can cause appliance to malfunction or stopped working all together. Some stoves can run on different gas, so as some regulators. Don't forget to check manuals for directives. Butane will only readily change to a gas above 0°c, so it is generally suitable for the spring to autumn campers. Propane on the other hand, winter or all year round if dense.
