Using Digital Weighing Scale To Determine Tare Weight Of Gas Cylinders

One way to determine the LPG worth (LW) of any cylinder bottles is by using a digital scale. Tare weight is the empty weight of the gas cylinder. Along with the gas cylinder bottle dimensions, they can vary greatly by manufacturers and date of manufacture. For example, older bottles tend to be heavier than more recent versions. The Tare weight (empty) weight of the bottles are usually stamped on the neck ring top of the cylinder bottle. The difference between the scale reading and Tare weight, should indicate approximately how much LPG gas reminding in the cylinder bottle. Also totally a different thing from the LPG worth of that cylinder bottle.

To properly know the LPG worth of that cylinder bottle, place the cylinder on a digital scale. The Tare weight (empty) should show a numeric figure on the dashboard, indicating the total weight of the gas cylinder, which also include the bottle dimensions. Now, go back to check the neck ring of the gas cylinder bottle. Most manufacturers made it easy to know what the LPG worth of their brand gas bottles is. A 50kg gas cylinder bottle does not actually mean that 50kg worth of LPG gas can be refilled to it. Tare worth (TW) is different from LPG worth (LW).

Some gas cylinder manufacturers have the total weight prainted on cylinder bottles. Do not mistakes this to the LPG worth. The difference is determined by following the technical information stamped on the neck ring. For a Calor-gas, with prainted 47kg gas cylinder, in Nigeria is also known as 50kg. In the UK, this same 50kg is known as 45kg. But the total weight on the digital scale is 50kg. And the LPG worth for this particular Calor-gas is actually 35kg. Any refilling above this, only lead to overfilling. One the neck ring, this is what you should be on the lookout for:
