There is no fixed repairs for brass valve, so you need to install a new one, as they cannot be repaired. If the cylinder bottle is leaking from the valve diaphragm, do not keep indoors. Most times, it just reset itself.
NOTE: Only skilled person must work on cylinder bottle repairs. Inspect the gas connection and follow all safety protocols. Failure to follow these instructions with care, could lead serious health risks. Gas leaks may cause fatal fires or explosions.
TOOLS NEEDED:
1. Thread Seal Tape (also known as white tape).
2. Adjustable Wrench; Adjustable Spanner (can be changed to different settings).
3. Adhesive Glue
4. New Brass Valve
To perform this repair, make sure the cylinder bottle is totally empty of LPG gas. And these Instructions should be done on gas cylinder bottles with valves connections. Gas cylinders such as the medium and small sizes like 3kg, 5kg, 6kg, 10kg and 12.5kg. Although, most countries valve are different from one another, it is recommended you know what valve your gas cylinder bottles comes in. So, only buy suitable regulator brass valve for your cylinder replacement. In Nigeria, the brass valve for the 12.5kg cylinder bottle is totally different from the 3kg down to 10kg. The 6kg, 3kg, 5kg, and 10kg uses the same valves. These type of cylinder bottles are mostly known as BBQ containers.
OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS
1. Lose the damaged/faulty brass valve with the adjustable wrench/spanner. Note, make sure you take caution so you don't expand or further widen the open space of the cylinder valve diaphragm.
2. Remove the old brass valve, then insert the new valve to the cylinder diaphragm. Making sure you attach enough thread seal tapes around the new valve, but, not too much of it.
3. Then, apply a little adhesive glue on it. Firmly screw or tighten the coupling to the cylinder bottle diaphragm with the adjustable wrench. An adjustable wrench or spanner can be changed into different settings to fit must the brass valve.
4. Wait for some minutes to allow the adhesive glue to properly stick with the brass valve into the cylinder bottle diaphragm.
5. Test for leakages
To test for leakage after the replacement, you can refill your cylinder with no more than a 1kg LPG gas. You will need a soap water for this to perform a soapy test. Turn the cylinder bottle upside down to allow gas flow to the top of the replaced brass valve. Then, spread the soapy water to check for leakage. Bubble WILL form. If there is a gas leak, you may also smell the gas. You need to test the entire assembly from the gas bottle valve all the way to where the hose attaches. If you find a leak, take the cylinder to a safe ventilated area. Do not attempt to use the gas cylinder bottle until the problem is rectified. Put back the safety cap and contact your distributor for replacement of cylinder bottle.
