How To Test For Gas Leakage At LPG Gas Plants Or Refilling Sites

For LPG gas skid operators, it is always recommended to perform a leak test after resuming for daily duties, before and after a refill. At LPG refilling sites, gas leakage is inevitable but can be prevent if one follows all safety measures and precautions at these sites. Everytime gas skid operators resume for work, all surroundings of the LPG gas skid must be checked for leakage. The entire assembly from the pipelines to the gas pump, dispenser and storage tank, should be checked for leakage and mechanical faults.

A soapy test can simply be done by adding any detergent of your choice into water. The water should be properly smear with soap; covered with soap allowing it to form. It is also recommended that you make use of quality, clean water to dilute your detergent, because most water actually weaken or reduce soapy solution. This type of water is known as "hard water". Hard water contains mineral salts (as calcium and magnesium ions) that limit the formation of lather with soap.

Right after you've gotten your soapy water formed, place the solution in a plastic water bottle or container. As a gas skid operator, it's a good idea to leave the spray bottle near the gas skid so it's always a handy reminder to perform the soapy leak test. At LPG refilling sites, if you smell something strange, a gasous choking smell like a rotten cabbage - spray the soapy mixture on the entire gas skid assembly. Bubbles well form if there is a gas leak and you may also smell a lite choking odour.

Whether at home or at the refilling LPG sites, you need to test the entire hose,  pipelines assembly from the gas cylinder, valve all the way to where the gas cylinder/storage tank attaches. Remember to always test for leakage everytime you refill a gas cylinder bottle, everytime you reconnect the gas regulator.

If you find leak in the LPG refilling skid, switch off the gas circuit and power supply. Any call for help. Do not switch back on or attempt to use the LPG gas skid, until the problem is traced and rectified.
