The federal benchmark price is ₦230 per kg (PCNGi / FG). Using a common conversion for natural gas (about 0.829 kg per 1 SCM), that equals roughly ₦191 per SCM. Market prices can be higher (₦320 - ₦350/kg or more), so the real SCM price in some places is often ₦265–₦290 per SCM or higher.
How I got these numbers (simple steps)
What is an SCM?
An SCM = one standard cubic metre of natural gas (a volume measure). Stations sometimes sell CNG by kg and sometimes by SCM.The government benchmark: ₦230 per kg. This is the rate announced under the Presidential CNG initiative.
Conversion factor (kg to SCM)
Natural gas composition varies, so the kg-SCM conversion is not one fixed number. A widely used practical figure for natural gas is about 0.829 kg per 1 SCM (so 1 SCM approximately 0.829 kg). Use this for simple, typical conversions.
Price math (easy steps)
> Start with price per kg: ₦230 / kg.
> Multiply by kg per SCM (0.829):
= 230 × 0.829 = 190.67 so approximately @ ₦191 per SCM.
If market rate is higher (example: ₦320 - ₦350 per kg, which some dealers charge), then:
320 × 0.829 = 265.28 equals to ₦265 per SCM.
350 × 0.829 = 290.15 you have approximately ₦290 per SCM.
So depending on which per-kg price you use, the per-SCM price moves with it.
Short table
| Price per kg (₦) | kg per SCM used | Price per SCM (₦) |
|---|---|---|
| 230 (govt benchmark) | 0.829 | 191. |
320 (common market level) |
0.829 | 265. |
350 (higher market level) |
0.829 | 290. |
