Maybe you just moved to a new apartment, or you are replacing an old gas cylinder system (including cylinder bottles, hose pipes and regulator connection), installing a gas cylinder at home can be dangerous if you don’t do it the right way. It may looks simple, but not easy.
A gas cylinder carries pressurized gas, and if it leaks or is installed wrongly, it can cause fire or even an explosion. That’s why it’s very important to follow some safety steps when setting up your gas cylinder. Let’s go through them one by one, like a small tutorial.
1. The first thing is location. Always put your gas cylinder in a safe and ventilated place. If possible, keep it outside the house in a proper storage area. The spot should be easy to reach, away from direct sunlight, rain, or water drips. Also, never place it near things that can catch fire like paper, plastic, or rubber.
2. Every gas cylinder comes with instructions from the company/brand. These steps tell you how to connect the regulator, hose, and cylinder correctly. Don’t ignore or change the instructions, they are there for your safety.
3. When you’re installing, always use proper tools. For example, use a wrench to tighten the regulator and hose connections properly. Make sure the hose is the right size and length, because using the wrong tools or loose fittings can make the installation unsafe.
4. After you finish installing, don’t rush to use it. First, check for leaks. The easy way is with a soap and water solution. Just apply it to the connection points. If bubbles appear, it means gas is leaking. If you see a leak, turn off the cylinder immediately and fix the issue before using it. You can also buy a gas leak detector if you want extra safety.
5. Never use a damaged, rusty, reprinted cylinder. Before connecting, always check your cylinder. If it has dents, holes, or looks damaged, don’t use it. A damaged cylinder is very risky and can act like a ticking time bomb. Replace it with a safe one to protect your family and home.
6. Even after installation, storage is important. Keep your cylinder in an upright position and secure it so it doesn’t fall. Store it in a ventilated space, far away from fire or flammable items.
