DIY: How To Fit Rubber Hose Pipe Connected With Gas Regulator To Your Cooking Appliance

LPG gas regulators used to supply has to utilities such for domestic homeuse are known as the Quick-On Low Pressure Regulators. These low pressure regulators are directly fitted to your gas cylinder bottle valve. Unlike the POL propane tanks with inbuilt regulator, which doesn't require an external regulator attached on them, some LPG gas cylinders do requires an external regulator attached to them.


Fitting the rubber hose pipe connected with the gas regulator to your cooking appliance is quite easy if you follow the right Installation and operation instrustions. All safety protocol must be duely followed. Also, the LPG gas cylinder bottle must be used outdoor, positioned or protected against direct penetration by sunlight, and away from any source of Ignition.


NOTE: Some regulators are not for domestic homeuse. This are known as industrial regulators or High Pressure Gas Regulators. These types of regulators are only designed for the gas supply of medium pressure (2 bar) appliance, such as blowpipes and flame welders. Before purchasing any LPG gas regulators for domestic use/kitchen use, always check the technical information (user's manual) on the package. If you are not sure about usage, please ask the delivery person for a demonstration.


Fitting The Rubber Hose Pipe

1. Always order for compatible LPG hose. It must be of approved rubber tubes, and also order LPG gas regulator from authorized distributors only. Different rubber hose are used for different purposes. Some are also thicker than others. Fortunately in a country like Nigeria, you can easily differentiate between the type of rubber hose to use for either domestic use or industrial use. Different rubber hose pipes comes in different colors such as:

i. Orange color for domestic low pressure regulators, 

ii. Transparent hose pipes for tank-to-tank refill method

iii. Green color hose pipes for industrial high pressure regulators


Most popular hose pipe brand in Nigeria is the Amcool PVC hose, which the green colored rubber hose pipe is connected for mainly high pressure regulators for its elasticity. The transparent white rubber hose are mainly used by local LPG retail resellers. This type of transparent hose pipes are very lite and not recommended for either domestic or industrial usage.


2. Make sure you use the correct rubber hose length. For a permanent use outside the house, purchase enough lengthy hose pipes to connect your cooking appliance to the gas cylinder bottle outdoor. This should be connected through the kitchen window, far away from any source of Ignition. To ensure correct operation of the flow of gas supply, the appliance hose length should be 1.5m at maximum.


3. After cutting the rubber hose pipe to the correct length, connect on end of the hose pipe to the gas regulator outlet, if necessary with the aid of soapy water. Then fasten the hose with the gas regulator using clamps/clips with the help of a pillar or screwdriver.


4. Don't over-tighten to prevent damaging the hose. In some countries the hose clamps/clips and the hose are of standard dimensions.


CAUTION: Make sure that all the of the gas consuming appliance are closed. The connecting pipe is correctly fitted to the consuming appliance.


5. Lastly, after fitting the rubber hose pipe with the gas regulator to your kitchen appliance, make sure you do a soapy liquid test to check for leakages. Spray the soapy solution to each end of both the regulator and the kitchen appliance. If you notice any bubbles forming, turn off the gas regulator knob immediately. Switch off the consuming appliance in the kitchen. Disconnect the connection of the hose and the gas cylinder bottle. Do not turn back on or attempt to use the gas cylinder until the problem is rectified.
