Why Doesn't LPG Gas Move Or Flow Into Gas Cylinder Or Tank When Refilling?

Depending on the method of refilling the gas cylinder bottle, normally the LPG gas is stored in liquid form under pressure. LPG is a gas at atmospheric pressure and normal ambient temperature, but it can be liquefied when moderate pressure is applied or when the temperature is sufficiently reduced. It can be easily condensed, package, stored and utilized, which makes it an ideal energy source for a wide range of applications.

On rare occasions, an "O" ring made of rubber inserted inside the neck valve (intended as cushioned seal to avoid metal to metal contact and renewed every time the cylinder is refilled) may not fill in place properly; causing difficulty in coupling. This follows escape of LPG gas with a hissing sound emitting pungent smell of Mercaptan Sulfur alerting the user.

Other cause may result from a spoilt or stuck cylinder diaphragm stem. There is no fixed repairs for a damaged cylinder valve stem. You will need to contact your distributor for replacement of cylinder bottle.

As a gas skid operator, you may try refilling a cylinder bottle, you could see the gas movement through the hose pipe, but however, the gas is not allowing into the cylinder bottle. In this situation, check if the gas pump dispenser is switched on. Also check if all necessary taps of the gas skid are opened. Correctly open the right valves. The gas flow can be opened by turning the knob a quarter turn counterclockwise until you reach the perpendicular position, as shown on the valve. In this position the gas flow valve is opened and the gas flow is allowed.
